Sandro Ippolito is the promoter of the initiative “Colora la Sicilia su due ruote” (Color Sicily on Two Wheels), developed through his organization, Sicily to bike. Its primary goal is threefold: to promote Sicilian culture, cycle tourism, and boost student creativity.
The project draws inspiration from the tradition of the Sicilian Carts (Carretti Siciliani) to “steal the vitality, history, and desire for sharing” and transfer them onto bicycles—defined as the “slowest means of locomotion par excellence”.
The competition invited art high school students in the Sicily region (school year 2025-2026) to customize 17 bike/e-bikes with Sicilian-themed decorations, turning them into authentic “traveling works of art”. These 17 world-unique bicycles (“mechanical works of art”) will now be used to promote the Valle del Belice territory and bring joy and sharing to soft mobility. Ippolito views these bikes as the realization of a dream, rooted in his belief that the region has so much to share.
