Ciclonica: the Ionian Salento Cycle Route
A multi-stage journey of over 350 km through the protected areas of the Ionian coast of Salento. Plus, five loops for daily excursions among villages, farmhouses, pajare, wild beaches, and seaside pine forests: this is the adventure of Ciclonica, the Ionian Salento Cycle Route, offering the opportunity for a multi-stage trip accessible to everyone, as well as shorter rides for one or more days of vacation.
The route, developed by Vivilitalia, provides an intuitive app that makes navigation along the trail easy, allowing cyclists to discover points of interest and bike-friendly facilities.
The itinerary takes advantage of the network of secondary and rural roads in Salento, small low-traffic routes with minimal elevation changes. Starting and ending in Lecce, the journey passes through the Valle della Cupa and the Grecìa Salentina before reaching the Ionian coast. It passes through Galatina—home of taranta and the famous pasticciotto—and touching some of the most renowned coastal locations, from Gallipoli to Nardò, from Ugento to Porto Cesareo.
Appennino Bike Tour
Infrastructure development continues for the Appennino Bike Tour. This spectacular cycle route spans 3,100 km, crossing Italy from Liguria to Sicily through 14 regions, 56 protected areas, and over 300 municipalities in 44 stages.
The signage is now completed from north to south, and the same work is already underway for the reverse route, which will be finished in the coming months. The Appennino Bike Tour, developed by ViviAppennino and Legambiente, is the most significant cycle tourism project ever carried out in Italy, allowing cyclists to explore the small villages of the Apennines by bike.
