Giro D’Italia D’Epoca

The Giro d’Italia d’Epoca is a non-profit Amateur Sports Association that brings together the best historic cycling events in Italy.

Founded in 2011 but with roots in historic cycling, which officially began in 1909 with the first Giro d’Italia, it is led by President and Vice President Michela Girardengo and Gioia Bartali, respectively the great-granddaughter and niece of legendary cyclists Costante Girardengo and Gino Bartali.

Unlike the Giro d’Italia, the Giro d’Italia d’Epoca is not limited to just three weeks. Its stages take place throughout almost the entire year across most regions. The historic cycling events that make up the Giro d’Italia d’Epoca currently include 13 stages (plus two in Brazil), held in rural Italian areas of scenic, artistic, and gastronomic interest.

These are strictly non-competitive events, taking place mainly on unpaved roads, using vintage bicycles and period clothing.

The Goals of the Giro d’Italia d’Epoca

Standardizing the events in terms of ethics, aesthetics, and safety, through a set of regulations that each organization must follow.

Supporting and promoting individual events.

Spreading environmental awareness.

Promoting slow and sustainable tourism.

Helping to create conditions for safer roads in Italy for vulnerable users.

Highlighting local communities and regional excellence.

Boosting the popularity of the Historic Cycling Movement by building an ever-growing community of relaxed, joyful cyclists who reunite at every stage like old friends while meeting new ones along the way. Sharing the love for outdoor life and good food, leisurely rides through nature, and breathtaking landscapes that embellish all of Italy. Leaving no heavy footprint on the land, only the light tracks of their tires on the dust.
