The Brigands’ Trail (between Abruzzo and Lazio) is a walking trail that is now also a mountain bike trail. It covers 216 km in 4-5 days, at average altitudes (between 800 and 1300 m), following in the footsteps of brigands on the slopes of Monte Velino. Departure and arrival are from Sante Marie (AQ). Along the route, you will pass through 18 villages.
Partly staying on the classic route and partly exploring neighboring areas, such as the Simbruini mountains, parts of Cicolano, and the part of Massa d’Albe below Velino. A challenging route, aimed at trained bikers with a fair amount of experience. Very little asphalt.
When you register at the start, you will receive a pass to be stamped at the stops and other places along the MTB Tour. At the end of the circuit, when you return to the starting point, show your pass, which must contain at least one stamp for every 40 km, and you will receive a commemorative certificate. Both are free of charge.
The route is fully signposted with small blue signs. These are mainly used at junctions, as the trails are often marked both because certain sections are on the Brigands’ Trail on foot and because there are CAI trails and local cycle paths.
